A super stylish Eames EA178 loose cushion armchair with universal base & floor glides, manufactured by Herman Miller. Upholstered in a chocolate brown 'hopsack' fabric.
The EA178 Armchair was released to the market in 1971 and was aimed primarily at the workplace market. This chair is essentially an adaptation of the original fiberglass plastic armchair and was coded EC178 but soon coined the name 'loose cushion chair' due to being the only fiberglass chair to have a separate removable seat cushion.
The chair was also given the 'universal base' which was first seen on the 'Time Life' chair in the early 60's and brought into the ALU Group in 1968, This was a first for the plastic series of chairs.
This chair is in good vintage condition with all the chair upholstery intact and sound, the metal base all together and the mechanism all working as it should be. The seat cushion has had a minor repair at the back which is photographed and also there is a surface imperfection to fiberglass underneath. This is commensurate of age and use.
